There’s many things you can do to prepare for an in person audition or recording session. Voice exercises can be done to warm up, but here’s a few other tips for ensuring that your session goes as smoothly and successfully as possible.
- Make sure that the recording, or in person audio is good. You don’t need to be in a professional studio, but ensuring that your voice is clear and free of background noise can be seen as a baseline for audition tapes.
- Practice saying the script! If there are unfamiliar words, learn how to say them properly! There’s nothing wrong with asking questions, and you want to ensure that the hiring manager can hear the effort you’ve put in. Additionally, make sure you read the script clearly! Hiring managers can often put in additional notes, or unwritten cues in the script, so make sure you get those nuances in your voice when you’re putting it out there on the mic!
- When introducing yourself, try doing it in character! Though this one isn’t necessarily essential, every moment counts! Slating yourself in whilst in the middle of your audition is a good way to maximize the amount of voice that the hiring manager hears.
- Finally, make sure you’re giving it your best, and enjoy yourself.
